Ayurvedic Massage in NHS South West London Hospitals & Healthcare Clinics

Head & shoulder massages for NHS staff

It has never been more pertinent for staff in the NHS to de-stress and have time out.  Since the pandemic, the staff at the NHS are struggling every day to fulfill their duties to the patient public and cope with their personal health and wellbeing.  In March 2022, Amla Health was invited by the NHS, to provide head and shoulder massages to the staff, across SW London.  To say the least, the initiative has been extremely well received.

We provide 15 minutes head and shoulder massages, to staff, across all departments, at the hospitals. The response and feedback has been overwhelmingly positive; the staff really need and appreciate the holistic therapy and care we offer.  We aim to grow this 'energy' giving service to our NHS community long into the future.

Hospitals and Clinics engaged with so far include St George's University Hospital, Kingston Hospital, Epsom Hospital, St Helier's Hospital, Sutton Hospital and the Royal Marsden Hospital.  We have also provided services to NHS healthcare clinics too; namely Your Healthcare (Surbiton) and Green Wrythe Clinic (Sutton).  We aim to increase our reach in the future.  The staff really do need our support.

We have provided the service to staff as part of their Health and Wellbeing programme at St Georges Hospital, since 2016.  We participate at their yearly hospital events, such as, The Year of the Midwife celebrations, Disability History Month and Health and Well-being events. We also massage the staff on a monthly basis as part of their Health and Wellbeing offer and often massage the staff in their wards such as the Maternity and Paediatric departments.  We estimate that over 3,000 staff have benefitted from Ayurvedic head and shoulder massages, since inception, in 2016.

The initiative continues to expand; now is the time to grow the well-being culture from within the NHS.

Amla Health took part in the St Mary's Hospital, Mental Health event on 30th January, 2018 in Roehampton London.

Focused on the ritual of eating  Amla Health re-introduced the concept that your habits during eating can benefit your mental health.  The senses should be properly satiated so that the positive messages that are fed to your mind and the cells throughout your body.

It is easier said than done to focus on your food and the ritual of eating in the correct environment at every meal.  Try it and see for youself!
I had a successful day in November 2018, talking to the members of MindUK about the effect that eating has on our happiness.

The most important aspects about your attitude to food are:

Happiness and enjoyment
The smell
Fresh and unprocessed
The look colourful
The taste

Equally important are:
The Environment
Time of Day

I had great feedback and so many questions.  MindUK could definately incorporate Ayurvedic advise to help their members.

We participated in the St Georges Hospital Mental Health Day in October 2017.  It was a great event attended by lots of people and staff.

Mental health in the workplace is the theme of World Mental Health Day 2017. World Mental Health Day is observed on 10 October every year, with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues and mobilizing efforts in support of better mental health.

Depression and anxiety disorders are common mental disorders that have an impact on our ability to work, and to work productively. Globally, more than 300 million people suffer from depression, the leading cause of disability. More than 260 million are living with anxiety disorders. Many of these people live with both. A recent WHO-led study estimates that depression and anxiety disorders cost the global economy US$ 1 trillion each year in lost productivity.
